It offers FM operation across 430-440 MHz with up to 5 watts of output power and features a rugged, compact metal housing. With 14 memory channels and repeater shift capability, it was a popular companion for mobile amateur radio operation of its era. As successor to the TH-41, it marks an important step in Kenwood's UHF handheld radio lineup.
