The Alan 434 is considered one of the origins of the modern walkie-talkie and was introduced in 1997/98 with a design strongly reminiscent of early mobile phones of that era (short antenna, compact housing). Important technical note: this is actually a license-free LPD device on the 433 MHz band with 69 channels and 10 mW ERP output power — not a true PMR446 device, since the PMR446 standard was not introduced until 2001. For catalog compatibility it is classified here under "PMR"/"PMR446"; technically it should be classified as an LPD433 radio.
